Backcountry Inshore Fishing Charter in Hilton Head
Among our most popular charters are half day Backcountry Inshore trips. The inshore waters include the salt marsh tidal creeks, rivers, and sounds (aka “bays”). We might run a bit around to the coastal waters on the ocean side (especially if hunting live bait) but are generally on the inland side of the island and focused on calmer waters.
There's lots to do on the inshore waters. Fishing is a highlight and often the sole focus of a trip, but we're not limited to just fishing, either. Feel free to mix it up with cruising the creeks, watching dolphin and other wildlife, or a stop at a remote sandbar or shellbank. This is not an exhaustive list. Feel free to request or customize your trip as you see fit.
As far as the fishing goes, we have about a zillion spots we could share with you. For inshore trips we usually anchor up, or use the trolling motor to move gently through the creeks, in search of a multitude of fish species. Redfish (red drum), speckled trout, tarpon, cobia, flounder, ladyfish, whiting, croaker, and let's not forget the SHARKS. Lot's of 'em and in all sizes, too.
During summer, it's important to note that much of the inshore action is sharks. Yes, we do catch other types of fish inshore, but sharks are often first to the hook and should be expected as part of most trips. The same natural baits and techniques we use to target fish like cobia, redfish, or tarpon are the same prey that appeal to sharks. We're fortunate to have a large population of small and mid-sized sharks that provide consistent action and excitement. Fishing on this trip can be light and casual, or more "serious" and extreme, just let us know what you have in mind. Or bypass the fishing and we can focus on all the other fun stuff that Island Life has to offer!
